FAQ About Dentistry
How often should I visit the dentist?
Most patients should schedule a cleaning and exam every six months. Some may need more frequent visits depending on gum health or treatment needs.
Why are dental X-rays necessary?
Digital X-rays help detect issues not visible during a standard exam—such as cavities between teeth, infections, bone loss, or impacted teeth—allowing for earlier and more conservative treatment.
What causes tooth sensitivity?
Tooth sensitivity can happen for several reasons, and it usually means the protective layers of the teeth have been weakened or exposed. Common causes include enamel erosion from acidic foods or aggressive brushing, gum recession that exposes the root surface, cavities, cracked or worn teeth, and grinding or clenching. Sometimes sensitivity can also occur after dental treatment, such as whitening or a filling.
Your dentist can determine the exact cause and recommend the right solution—such as fluoride treatments, desensitizing products, bonding exposed areas, addressing bite issues, or treating decay. With the proper care, most patients experience significant relief.
What should I do if I have a dental emergency?
Call our office right away. We offer same-day emergency appointments for severe tooth pain, broken teeth, swelling, or lost fillings/crowns.
How can I improve my oral health at home?
Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily, limit sugary foods and drinks, and maintain regular professional cleanings. Your dentist may also recommend additional tools like an electric toothbrush or water flosser.
